HRC™3000 – Mining Magazine 2015 Innovation Award

Mining Magazine has recognized Metso’s HRC™3000 high-pressure grinding roll with its annual Minerals Processing award.

The HRC™3000 is a winner!  

Readers of Mining Magazine have voted Metso’s HRC™3000 high-pressure grinding roll the winner of the 2015 Mining Magazine Minerals Processing award. We are extremely happy about this recognition coming directly from the professionals working in the mining industry.

Our goal in developing the HRC™3000 was to help the mining industry reduce their energy consumption. With comminution being the most energy-intensive step in mining, reductions in energy generate substantial savings to the operation.

High-pressure grinding roll (HPGR) technology has been well established as a more energy efficient solution compared to traditional tumbling mill circuits. It’s nothing new – the technology has been available for quite some time already. However, traditional HPGR’s have typically been associated with inherent concerns such as skewing and edge effect which lead to inefficiencies. The Metso HRC™3000 is not only a larger scale version of what was currently available to the market, but also applies innovative solutions to overcome the issues of traditional HPGR’s.

The design and development of the Metso HRC™3000 has spanned over five years, with many different teams both inside and outside Metso working on this machine. In addition to boosting the machine's energy efficiency, our main goal was to innovate and to push the existing boundaries.  As a result, we have been able to introduce a unique, energy-efficient comminution solution with an impressive range of industry-leading features, aimed at getting more value from every ton of ore.

The past two years have been very exciting for the HRC™ team, because we have been able to see the original concepts come to life. There is nothing more exciting as an engineer than to see a product go from a concept to a successfully operating machine that not only achieves the design targets but exceeds them in many aspects. Our central goal was and is to deliver a superior product that truly changes the way the industry looks at HPGR technology. This award, decided by our industry, is very special to us because it tells us we achieved what we set out to do.
