Our strategy aims for sustainable, profitable growth over the long term. In the short term, we are focusing on improving our competitiveness and cash flow and on securing our profitability. This means continuous improvement of our own operations – productivity, operational excellence, quality and cost competitiveness.

Big fluctuations in the market situation have an impact everywhere at Metso. In the current, challenging market situation we are focusing on adjusting our cost structure and capacity to correspond with demand. We are not, however, pruning key projects that enhance our long-term competitiveness. Examples of these kinds of projects include the focused development of the services and environmental business and the strengthening of our presence in emerging markets.

Our strategy is based on a longer-term strategic framework of the company’s purpose, values, Code of Conduct and vision.

Our purpose is Engineering Customer Success. This purpose, together with the values and Code of Conduct, forms a foundation for our vision to become the industry benchmark.

Our strategic goals emphasize operational excellence and customer satisfaction and act as a roadmap to our vision. The strategic focus areas define the current key areas and priorities in customer satisfaction development and operational excellence, which are required to attain profitable growth.

We have also set financial targets, which measure our continuous improvement and its capability to create long-term shareholder value.
