Join global business

I applied to Metso, as I wanted to become a part of global business operations. I was interested in the opportunities to engage in challenging and diverse work assignments and learn from them in a large company. In addition, the choice was affected by career development prospects, the opportunity to travel, and the good reputation of the company.

I joined the company as an HR Trainee and currently I work as an HR Assistant. My responsibilities include assisting the HR Controller, reporting, HR systems, work environment measurement, and various HR projects. I will graduate in 2009 and my intention is to continue from that time as HR Controller here.

Motivated by learning and responsibility

I expect new challenges and learning from work, the job should teach the worker. The responsibility and stability of the position also provide motivation, as work should be precisely that - motivating.

Working at Metso creates challenges - there is always something new. There is an opportunity for new types of challenges here and I also have received responsibility. In addition, I have very good colleagues and managers. One of the best features of my department (HR) is that tasks are performed well yet they do not have to be done with a frown on one’s face. Work can and should be fun.

A global network as a resource

In a challenging position, one has the opportunity to develop every day. Encountering new things in a changing world means that one cannot become content with where they are and cease progress. Instead, new things should be learned constantly.

I also develop my expertise through engaging in conversations with different people about various issues. Contacts with my manager are important. In addition, several issues pertaining to my job have been subject to scrutiny while working on my thesis.

The expectation that good job performance will be rewarded over time financially as well is a significant part of working life for every individual. It also means a lot to meet new people and create networks in a global environment.

It feels good to be able to help

I receive gratitude from people when I have been able to assist with something. Sometimes gratitude is not received, but when I know I have done something right, I can at least be satisfied with my contributed effort. At those times, one must be capable of thanking themselves and appreciating their own work.

It feels good when I can assist someone with their problems and support their performance. Learning and adapting new things increase job satisfaction, which naturally is also increased by receiving encouraging feedback.

In some instances, things are good when you are not contacted. It is a sign that the systems, for example, are functioning as intended.

What comes to mind in connection with the following words?
