Major orders 2011

We have drawn up a summary of the major orders received by Metso in 2011. The list is based on the published press releases and will be updated when new orders are published. Please note that the list is not exhaustive and includes only major orders.


January

Metso will supply Oü Helme Energia with a biomass power plant for combined heat and power production (CHP) in the township of Helme in Estonia. The power plant will be delivered by the Metso-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power. The delivery scope includes plant automation system, which will be delivered by Metso’s Automation business line. The value of the order is over EUR 15 million and the order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q4, 2010 orders received. The start-up of the plant is scheduled for the Q3, 2012. Metso will supply Porvoon Energia with a biomass boiler plant for combined heat and power production (CHP) in the township of Tolkkinen, Finland. The boiler plant will be delivered by the Metso-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power. The value of the order is below EUR 15 million and the order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q4, 2010 orders received. The plant is scheduled to be ready during Q1, 2013. Metso and SAICA have made an outsourcing agreement on the mill maintenance of Saica Containerboard UK Ltd’s paper mill in Partington, United Kingdom. With this multi-year agreement, which became effective as of January 11, 2011, Metso will assume full responsibility for establishment of maintenance operations, mill maintenance and management of improvement projects for the power stations, stock and paper production facilities as well as water treatment equipment at the Partington mill. The value of the agreement will not be disclosed. (Release on January 31, 2011)

Metso will supply the Harihar Polyfibers unit of Grasim Industries Limited with a recovery boiler to replace the two existing recovery boilers at the rayon grade pulp mill located in Kumarapatnam, Karnataka state, India. Start-up of the boiler is scheduled for the Q3 of 2012. The value of the order is not disclosed. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q4/2010 orders received. February

Metso will supply a new recovery boiler and evaporation plant for Eldorado Celulose e Papel S.A.’s new greenfield pulp mill investment in Três Lagoas, Brazil. The value of the order is not disclosed. The order will be included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q4/2010 orders received. The start-up of the new plant is scheduled for Q4/2012. (Release on February 1, 2011)

Metso will supply a gasifier to sustain new gasification technology to Göteborg Energi AB´s innovative project GoBiGas20MW. The value of the order is approximately EUR 30 million, and the order was already included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q4/2010 orders received. The gasification demo plant will be operational in early 2013. (Release on February 8, 2011)

Metso will supply Northland Resources minerals processing equipment and basic engineering for the two process lines at Northland's new Kaunisvaara iron ore project in Sweden, exploiting Tapuli and Sahavaara iron ore deposits. The value of the orders will not be disclosed. The orders will be included in Mining and Construction Technology's Q1-Q2/2011 orders received. In addition, the parties have also signed a letter of intent covering all works related to the process plant system in Kaunisvaara iron ore project excluding building structure and related civil works. Metso will supply installation and commissioning services to Amcor Packaging (Australia) Pty Ltd as part of its new machine project for a containerboard line at its Botany Mill in Sydney, Australia. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s Q1 orders received. (Release on February 18, 2011)

Metso will supply a 900 TPD (tons per day) lime calcining system to Martin Marietta Magnesia Specialties in Ohio, the USA. The delivery will be completed before the end of 2011. The value of the order is approximately EUR 11 million and it was included in Mining and Construction Technology’s Q4 2010 orders received. (Release on February 28, 2011)


March

Metso will supply a complete tissue production line to the Moroccan Jeesr Industries for their mill. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The market value of a tissue production line of this type is in the range of EUR 15–20 million depending on the scope of the delivery and the production output. The most part of the order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s Q1 orders received and the automation package in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q1 orders received. Metso will supply SIA Graanul Invest with a biomass power plant for combined heat and power production (CHP) in Latvia. The power plant will be delivered by the Metso-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power. The delivery scope includes plant automation system delivered by Metso. The value of the order is about EUR 15 million and the order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q1, 2011 orders received. (Release on March 21, 2011)

Metso and Brazilian Petrobras have signed a service contract for 11 refineries in Brazil. The contract covers the supply of spare parts and maintenance services for Metso’s valves, actuators and positioners and the intelligent tools for preventive and predictive maintenance planning developed by Metso. Metso will supply a single tandem rotary railcar dumper to Hamersley in Australia. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The order is included in Mining and Construction Technology’s Q1 2011 orders received. (Release on March 29, 2011)


April

Metso has signed a contract with Northland Resources for minerals processing equipment and project services. The contract complements Northland’s previous order, announced by Metso in February 2011. The complete value of the two orders exceeds EUR 200 million. The order announced in February amounted to approximately EUR 25 million and it was recorded in Mining and Construction Technology’s Q1 orders received. The second order will be included in Q2 orders received. (Release on April 18, 2011)

Metso has concluded an agreement to supply all main technology for the 1.5 million tonnes greenfield pulp mill of Suzano Papel e Celulose S.A., to be built in Brazil. The value of the order is not disclosed. However, a typical value of an order of this size and scope is EUR 800-900 million. About 60 percent of this is made up by Metso-supplied equipment and systems and they will be recorded as Metso’s new orders and consequently in net sales during the delivery period. The rest covers equipment and related services from other suppliers and partners. About 50 percent of the Metso-supplied content is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s second-quarter orders received and about 50 percent in Energy and Environmental Technology’s second-quarter orders received. Metso will rebuild a relocated fine paper machine for the Mexican Grupo Unipak at their new mill site in Mexico. The value of the order is approximately EUR 5 million. The order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s Q1 2011 orders received. (Release on April 20, 2011)

Metso will convert a coal fired CFB boiler to a biomass fired boiler for Elektrociepłownia Tychy in southern Poland. The total value of the order is approximately 20 million EUR. (Release on April 21, 2011)

Metso will supply a cooking plant and a fiber line upgrade to the mill of Phoenix Pulp & Paper in Thailand. The value of the order is approximately EUR 10 million. The order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s Q2 2011 orders received. (Release on April 29, 2011)


May

Metso will supply an extensive electrification and automation delivery to Outokumpu’s new ferrochrome plant in Tornio, Finland. Metso’s delivery targets the new melting plant, the new sintering plant and the water plant as well as for the raw material dosage and the coke station. The value of the order is not disclosed. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q1/2011 orders received. (Release on May 12, 2011)

Metso will rebuild the folding boxboard machine at the mill of Cartones Ponderosa in Mexico. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s Q2 2011 orders received. (Release on May 17, 2011)

Metso will supply minerals processing equipment and services to Russian Copper Company for its copper operation in southwestern Russia. The service contract is for over 6 years and includes a team of more than 130 Metso on-site personnel and service parts supply. The complete value of the order is approximately EUR 200 million. The total order will be included in Mining and Construction Technology Q2 orders received. (Release on May 26, 2011)


June

Metso will supply crushing equipment to Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) in Australia. The value of the order is approximately EUR 34 million. The order is included in Mining and Construction Technology’s Q1/2011 orders received. (Release on June 3, 2011)

Metso will supply Vaskiluodon Voima in Vaasa, Finland, with a 140-megawatt bio-gasification plant. Vaskiluodon Voima’s total investment is about 40 million euros, over half of which is attributable to Metso’s delivery. (Release on June 8, 2011)

Metso will rebuild two board machines for M-real in Finland. The combined value of the orders is over EUR 15 million. The orders were included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s Q1/2011 orders received. (Release on June 10, 2011)

Metso will supply a containerboard production line to Greenpac Mill LLC to their new mill site in the United States. The value of the order is approximately EUR 65 million. The main part of the order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s second-quarter orders received and the quality control system in Energy and Environmental Technology’s second-quarter orders received. July

Metso will supply Vantaan Energia Ltd with a heat recovery steam generator including main accessories, installation and commissioning. The boiler will be delivered by the Metso-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power and it will be installed into a new waste-to-energy plant in Långmossebergen in the city of Vantaa, Finland. The value of the order is nearly EUR 15 million and the order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q2, 2011 orders received. (Release on July 5, 2011)

Metso will supply the main components for the coated woodfree paper line’s off-machine coater at the Koryazhma Branch mill of Ilim Group in Russia. The value of the order is approximately EUR 20 million. The main part of the order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s second-quarter orders received and the automation package in Energy and Environmental Technology’s second-quarter orders received. Metso will supply a 100 MWe biomass boiler island and plant automation system to the Gainesville Renewable Energy Center (GREC) in Gainesville, Florida, USA. GREC has successfully raised nearly $500 million in construction financing of which Metso’s delivery represents more than 25 percent. The order will be included in the Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q3 orders received. (Release on 7 July, 2011)

Metso will perform replacement of a chemical recovery boiler for UBE Chemicals in Thailand. The total value of the order is above EUR 10 million and will be included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q2/2011 orders received. (Release on July 11, 2011)

Metso will supply boiler plants for combined heat and power production (CHP) to Fortum Power and Heat Oy in Järvenpää, Finland, and to Fortum Jelgava SIA in Jelgava, Latvia. The value of the orders, which is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s second quarter 2011 orders received, is not disclosed. (Release on July 12, 2011)

Metso will supply minerals processing equipment to Taigang Group Lanxian Mining Co. Ltd, (TISCO), the largest stainless steel manufacturer in China. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The order will be included in Mining and Construction Technology’s second quarter 2011 orders received. (Release on July 13, 2011)

Metso and Amcor Packaging (Australia) Pty Ltd have executed an agreement for the supply of mill maintenance services for Amcor’s Botany mill B9 board making line in New South Wales, Australia. The value of the agreement will not be disclosed. (Release on July 14, 2011)

Metso has signed a contract with Northland Resources AB for a five-year mill lining service and inspection program for the Kaunisvaara project in northern Sweden. The contract complements previous project orders by Northland Resources, announced by Metso earlier this year. The value of the order is EUR 19 million and it will be included in Mining and Construction Technology’s second quarter 2011 orders received. (Release on July 19, 2011)

August

Metso will supply Heizkraftwerk Zwickau Süd GmbH & Co. KG with a modularised biomass power plant for combined heat and power production (CHP) in Germany. The CHP plant will be delivered by the Metso-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power. The value of the order is about EUR 20 million and the order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q2, 2011 orders received. (Release on August 10, 2011)

Metso will supply a major board machine rebuild for the Kemsley mill of DS SmithPaper in the United Kingdom. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The order was included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s second quarter 2011 orders received. (Release on August 11, 2011)

Metso will supply two containerboard machines to Anhui Shanying Paper Industry Co. Ltd. in the City of Ma’anshan in Anhui Province, China. The value of the order will not be disclosed. A typical value of two containerboard lines varies from EUR 100 to 150 million, depending on the scope of delivery and the production capacity. The main part of the order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received and the automation and process systems package in Energy and Environmental Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received. Metso will deliver a metal shredder plant to the Russian Vyksa Steel Works, part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK). The value of the order has not been disclosed. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s 2011 second quarter orders received. (Release on August 16, 2011)

Metso will convert a coal fired boiler to biomass fired Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) boiler for Elektrociepłownia Białystok S.A’s combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Białystok, Poland. The total value of the order is approximately EUR 20 million. The order is included in the Energy and Environmental Technology’s second quarter 2011 orders received. (Release on August 30, 2011)

September

Metso will supply Kotka Energy Ltd a biomass-fired heating plant for the production of district heat in the township of Kotka in Finland. The turn-key heating plant will be delivered by the Metso-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power. The value of the order is not disclosed. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received. (Release on September 8, 2011)

Metso will supply a biomass-fired boiler plant for a leading dutch utility company, Eneco, in Delfzijl in the Netherlands. The construction of the power plant will be done by a consortium consisting of the German company Areva Renewables GmbH, Finnish Metso Power Oy and Dutch Ballast Nedam Industriebouw. The value of the power plant project order is EUR 155 million, of which Metso's share is approximately one third. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received. (Release on September 12, 2011)

Metso will supply a biomass boiler to the We Energies/Domtar Biomass Energy Project owned by We Energies. The biomass boiler is a key component of a major investment to build a new biomass-fueled cogeneration power plant which will be located at the Domtar Mill in Rothschild, Wisconsin, USA. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The value of the order is included in the Energy and Environmental Technology’s second quarter 2011 orders received. (Release on September 14, 2011)

Metso will supply a coated board production line to International Paper & Sun Cartonboard Co., Ltd in China. The value of the order will not be disclosed. A typical value of this kind of a production line is EUR 90–120 million, depending on the scope of the delivery and the production output. The main part of the order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received and the automation delivery in Energy and Environmental Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received. Metso has signed a roll service agreement with Holmen Paper for their Hallsta Paper Mill in Sweden. The value of the agreement will not be disclosed. With this three-year agreement, which became effective as of September 1, 2011, Metso will be responsible for all mechanical roll services at the Hallsta Paper Mill. (Release on 28 September, 2011)


October

Metso has signed an extensive frame agreement with Neste Oil for automation and safety system replacement deliveries as well as related services over the years of 2012 – 2016. Neste Oil also placed its first orders according to this agreement for new automation and safety systems for its Porvoo and Naantali refineries to replace existing systems. Metso will supply railcar dumper technology to Westshore Terminals Limited Partnership, which operates a coal storage and loading terminal located at Roberts Bank, Delta, British Columbia, Canada. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The order is included in Mining and Construction Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received. (Release on October 5, 2011)

Metso will deliver a steam boiler plant to Valio’s Lapinlahti production plants. The boiler plant will be delivered by the Metso-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power. In addition to the boiler plant, the delivery includes all of the necessary installations, the commissioning and the Metso DNA automation system. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received. (Release on October 14, 2011)

Metso will supply a new fiberline for chemical cellulose for Sappi’s Ngodwana mill in South Africa. Start-up is scheduled for the first half of 2013. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The main part of the order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received and the evaporation and ash leaching equipment delivery in Energy and Environmental Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received. Metso will supply a complete tissue production line to CMPC Tissue S.A. of Santiago, Chile. The value of the order will not be disclosed. This kind of production line is typically valued at EUR 20-30 million, depending on the scope of the delivery and the production output. (Press release on October 31, 2011

November

Metso has signed a contract with Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill to deliver a biomass-fired BFB (bubbling fluidized bed) power boiler including main auxiliary equipment for boiler and site advisory services. The value of the order is not disclosed, and the order is included in the Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q4 orders received. (Press release on November 3, 2011)

December

Metso will supply the world’s first commercial installation of LignoBoost technology to Domtar in North America. The equipment will be intergrated with the Plymouth North Carolina pulp mill. The value of the order is not disclosed. The LignoBoost plant will be in commercial operation in early 2013. The order is included in the Energy and Environmental Technology’s fourth quarter 2011 orders received. (Press release on December 15, 2011)

Metso was recently awarded a contract to supply Daio Paper Corporation with a rebuild of their hardwood kraft fiber line at their Mishima mill, located on Shikuko island, in Japan. Start-up of the rebuilt line is scheduled for the end of 2012. The value of the order will not be disclosed.The order is included in Paper and Fiber Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received. Metso and Stora Enso Corporation have signed an agreement on the single-drum conversion of Stora Enso’s Imatra Mills’ recovery boiler. The conversion of the recovery boiler will be completed in the fall of 2012. The value of the order will not be disclosed.
