Energy conclave – Working as One to be Number One
Metso organized an Energy Conclave for Tata Steel at the Beldih Club, Jamshedpur on March 29th, 2012. This was the first time in the history of Metso that all the three business lines, Mining and Construction (MAC), Pulp Paper & Power (PPP) and Automation (AUT) came under one roof to deliver their well honed expertise to Tata Steel.
The aim of the conclave was to deliver new concepts to the customer, which would in turn, help them reuse their waste outputs, leveraging an eco friendly solution . The major focus was on the benefits of coal beneficiation, niche specialization of CFBC combustion of low GCV/high ash rejects generated thru beneficiation and the final utilization of generated fly ash and bed ash to present - “Zero Waste” solution to the coal based industry. The initiative of conducting such an event was collectively taken by Sunil Yadav of Metso MAC, D Ravi of Metso PPP and Sudhir Pai of Metso AUT.
The conclave was inaugurated by Varun Jha, Vice President (Engg & CP) and facilitated by P S Reddy, Executive-in-charge (Secondary Products) & Atul Bhatnagar, Chief Planning (RMP), of Tata Steel
The session commenced with the Coal Beneficiation facet, presented by Ken Tucky & Ernst Bekker of Multotec from South Africa, followed by CFBC boilers that was introduced by Ari Kokko & Ismo Nittymaki of Metso Power, Finland; The Automation concept was conferred by Matti Miinalainen of Metso Automation Inc., Finland & Ash Classification by David Morrow & Clarence Kreiser of Metso Minerals Industries Inc., USA. The guest speaker for Ash Utilisation was Kallol Basu of Norwest Corporation, USA/Kolkata. These experts propagated their expertise in their respective fields.

The conclave was well attended by 54 delegates of Tata Steel & all the sessions were punctuated by vibrant interactive participation. Most of the queries hurled at the speakers were deftly addressed by them & clarifications were subsequently provided over dinner through unit discussions fielded by Mr D Ravi, R Venkatesan, K Sureshkumar & D Newton Raja of Metso PPP, Chennai about CFBC units, Similarly clarifications on Automation in CFBC was addressed by Sudhir Pai, Metso AUT, Mumbai.

G Venkatesan, Metso MAC, Gurgaon addressed queries on Ash Classification (including a live demonstration using a portable classifier) . Sunil Yadav, Danny D’Souza & Sunil Nigam of Metso MAC, Gurgaon discussed about beneficiation related issues on a one to one interactions with the customers over the dinner . All the topics were well received by the customer and this was evident by the appreciation received. As a feedback, the participants mentioned the comprehensiveness of the conclave and expressed their satisfaction on the module. The response was overwhelming.

The concluding session was initiated through a vote of thanks by PS Reddy of Tata Steel, & a short cultural dance recital by a troupe from Jamshedpur. The entire function was diligently coordinated by Metso India.
