METSO TO SUPPLY WOOD HANDLING AND DRYING TECHNOLOGY FOR STORA ENSO KAUKOPÄÄ MILL IN FINLAND
Metso Corporation's fiber and paper technology business area Valmet will supply the Stora Enso Kaukopää mill modernization and expansion project with systems for wood debarking and chipping, and for pulp drying. The value of the order is close to EUR 30 million (FIM 180 million). The equipment will be delivered in 2000 and 2001.
The order includes two debarking and chipping lines for the processing of all hardwood and softwood used in the mill. Total annual wood handling capacity is 3.5 million cubic meters of wood. The contract also includes erection, start-up and training services. The equipment will be delivered by Valmet Woodhandling.
The complete pulp drying process will comprise all the main items of process equipment as well as the process automation included in them. The line will enable drying of all pulp grades produced by the mill: softwood, hardwood and chemi-thermo-mechanical pulp. The pulp drying line, which will be delivered by Valmet Chemical Pulping, will have a daily capacity of 1000 tons of chemical pulp. The ventilation system will be delivered by Valmet Air Systems. Process automation will be supplied by Metso's automation and control technology business area Neles Automation.
This is the first order for a complete drying line package received by the pulp drying group of Metso's Valmet business area and is based on the drying expertise created through the merger of Valmet and Rauma.
The new fiber line at Stora Enso's Kaukopää mill is scheduled to start up in early April 2001 and the wood handling system for the existing fiber line in October 2002.
