METSO'S VALMET RECEIVES FIBER TECHNOLOGY ORDERS FOR WORTH OF CLOSE TO EUR 90 MILLION
Metso Corporation's fiber and paper technology business area, Valmet, has received orders for pulp drying and fiberline technology to customers in Brazil and Europe. The combined value of the orders is close to EUR 90 million. The deliveries are scheduled to take place late 2001 and late 2002.
The delivery to Votorantim Celulose e Papel (VCP) comprises a complete pulp drying line for the expansion project at the customer's Jacarei mill in Brazil. The new pulp line will produce bleached eucalyptus pulp. The line is scheduled to start up in September 2002.
The delivery to Burgo Ardennes in Belgium comprises equipment for the capacity increase in the customer's existing ECF fiberline (Elemental Chlorine Free) from 280,000 tons/year to 360,000 tons/year. The investment will also contribute to build the modern fiberline even more environmentally sound. Start-up of the fiberline is scheduled for October 2001.
Rising pulp prices have maintained the pulp industry's willingness to invest this year. The largest investments are in progress in South-America. In South-East Asia, the investment activity is also recovering to some extent. The investments are mainly targeted to modernize and increase production capacity or to decrease environmental effects of the pulp production.
In January – September 2000, totally 18 percent of Metso's net sales, close to EUR 500 million, accounted for Asia-Pacific and South-America.
