APPOINTMENT AT METSO CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS
M.Sc.(Econ) Helena Aatinen has been appointed Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Metso Corporation, as of January 1, 2002. Helena Aatinen will be responsible for internal and external communications, investor communications, their development and media relations. Tarja Kivelä, Senior Vice President, Corporate communications, will transfer to special tasks as Director, Corporate Communications, focusing on the development of the corporate image.
Helena Aatinen and Tarja Kivelä will report to Sakari Tamminen, Executive Vice President and CFO of Metso Corporation.

Metso completed its offer for Svedala Industri AB on September 14, 2001. Svedala is a global supplier of products and services for rock and mineral processes. Metso's and Svedala's combined net sales are approximately EUR 5,400 million (in 2000) and the amount of personnel is approximately 32,000.
