Metso Corporation's web version of its annual reports has won the international WebAward Competition for investor relations pages. Over a thousand web sites were entered for different categories of the competition. The web version of Metso's reports has been jointly designed by Metso and Evia Helsinki which is specialized in integrated communications.
The winning site was praised for its skillful presentation of a large amount of information. According to the jury, "the information is detailed, clearly presented and easy to use. The graph comparison feature has been particularly well designed." The jury also highlighted the skills of the text writers and layout designers.
Metso's award-winning site contain the annual report, financial statements and sustainability report in both Finnish and English. The annual report and financial statements are the same in terms of content as the printed version, but the sustainability report's web version offers more in-depth information. Functions to make use easier included the selection and comparison of graphs in a separate window, a horizontal highlighter for easier reading of graphs, and immediate access to the relevant notes to the financial statements. The tables can also be copied to one's own computer. Metso has been publishing its reports in web versions for the past two years.
"We wanted to stress the Metso vision and strategy in our reports, and highlighted these with animations in the sections on the Metso Future Care business concept and Metso in brief. Our strength lies in combining large amounts of information using web tools that provide the best possible visual and usability aids," says Helena Aatinen, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications. "When we were building the web reports, we were constantly keeping in mind the information needs of different user groups. Analysts, journalists and private investors all need to find the information they need as quickly as possible," adds Jaana M. Lappalainen, Communications Manager.
The US-based Web Marketing Association (WMA) has been organizing the WebAward Competition since 1997. The jury consists of media and advertising agency representatives, web designers, content producers and webmasters.
WMA evaluates corporate and community web services in terms of both general and sector-specific criteria. Points are awarded for visual outlook, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, navigation and ease of use.
