Cyclonic classifier - How it works

The feed material to be classified is conveyed pneumatically into the cyclone through the inlet scroll where it is transferred into a fluidizing air stream.  The ascending vortex carries the fine material out of the top of the classifier through the gas outlet tube.  The coarse material is disengaged from the airstream in the disengaging hopper where it discharged out the bottom of the cyclone through an airlock or into a sealed container.

The degree of classification is determined by the amount of reverse flow, inlet air volume, collector type/size, and the specific characteristics of the materials to be classified.
