The change enabler

Metso has developed a totally new felt changing system that utilizes felt insertion units. This system eliminates the need for cantilevering designs, and introduces a new way of building and operating a press section.

Cantilevering beams take up a significant amount of space on the machine back side. They require several narrow walkways, and they complicate maintenance access. Moreover, the complex construction on the machine back side often extends the time needed for shutdown and installation.

Instead of cantilevering the press section frames by removing numerous spacer blocks and using cantilevering hydraulics, there are felt insertion units on the tending side to take the load of the frame and rolls, and pull the felt on to the press section.

Felt insertion units can be used

In paper and board machines
In new machines or rebuilds
With all felt, transferbelt and wire types
In rebuilds, felt insertion units can be applied in places where there is no room for cantilevering beams.
