There are limits. But honestly, do we know exactly when the limit is reached? Our brains create solutions to problems based on the information at hand and then we think we’ve reached the limit. We regard this as “state-of-the-art” technology. We optimize the processes and then often stabilize them at that level. Some engineers might feel satisfied at this point, but at Metso we don’t.

Constantly testing the limits is a well-established culture among those of us who work in refiner segment technology. Our application experts and designers are always looking for a way to move to a higher level. For a mountaineer, moving to a higher level is not always straightforward because mountains, like processes, are unique, and this means that a solution for one particular location is not necessarily possible at another.
