Tervasaari PM 8 gains more production with OptiDry Vertical

With the goal of better serving customers and further strengthening its position as a trusted supplier of release papers, UPM decided their PM 8 needed more production capacity and better paper quality.

PM 8 has a wire width of 7,250 mm and paper basis weight ranges of 50-90g/m2. The machine was originally built in 1996 and there was no room to extend the machine.

Metso offered its new-generation impingement drying system, the OptiDry Vertical, as a solution to the problem. With this new dryer there was no need for major changes in the dryer section. The OptiDry Vertical impingement dryer can be installed in an existing dryer section without increasing the machine length, and with a minimal rebuild of the current dryer, so in many cases it is the most economical way for drying enhancement – often even the only way.

“The OptiDry dryer enabled production increase without increasing the machine length. We are very satisfied with this concept, and it well fulfilled our demand to increase production capacity,” says Jukka Kotilainen, Production Manager of PM 8.
