OptiLayer multilayer curtain coater
- optimizes both quality and costs

OptiLayer multilayer curtain coaterThe OptiLayer multilayer curtain coater – the only of its kind in the world – applies extremely thin and uniform layers simultaneously all within one coating station. It is equally suitable for both board and paper machines, regardless of their speeds and widths. The multilayer concept offers several advantages over single-layer curtain coating and other conventional coating methods.

Multilayer plusses: excellent coverage and fine-tuned functionalities

OptiLayer applies one or several coating layers at the same time – with excellent coverage. By
applying more than one layer, you can customize your product’s surface properties by fine-tuning the functionalities of different layers in a cost-efficient way.

Today’s trend in papermaking is to use more recycled fiber while increasing end-product quality and decreasing operating and raw material costs. The OptiLayer curtain coater is ideal for achieving these targets. You can use lower-cost furnish and optimize the use of expensive coating ingredients, without compromising on surface properties.

Superior runnability with non-contact application

Based on a non-contact application of coating layers, OptiLayer reduces the tendency for breaks at the coater, thus leading to superior runnability. Thanks to its unique OptiAir vacuum degassing feature, the coating layers remain defect-free, without any air bubbles. The coated width can be adjusted to the width of the sheet, and thereby reduce coating losses.

Also, the application of coating layers all within one station minimizes coating-related drying and space needs.

Curtain coater operation the easy way

The multilayer curtain coater is exceptionally easy to operate. Automated sequences make it safe to operate and reduce the need for manpower. Coating process controls and movements are integrated into the coating head so that the coating process is under full observation at all times.
