In fluidized bed technology, fuels are burned in a suspension with hot bed materials, consisting of sand, ash and additives. The hot sand effectively dries and ignites even demanding fuels with low heating value or high ash content, and various combinations of them. Strong turbulence and good mixing result in high combustion efficiency and low emissions.
With BFB technology, the sand bed bubbles in the lower part of the furnace. The combustion zone retains all fuel heat, thus making BFB combustion well suited for biomass and recycled fuels. Metso’s BFB boiler brand is HYBEXTM.
With CFB technology, the bed material flows together with flue gas through the furnace, after which it is separated from gas by cyclones and returned to the lower part of the furnace. This technology is optimal for higher heating value fuels, such as drier biomass, recycled fuels, fossil fuels and co-combustion. Metso’s CFB boiler brand is CYMICTM.
