Technology management

We offer our customers added value with the most competitive solutions available. We accomplish this through our expertise and technological competence, which we apply in finding solutions for the needs of our customers.

Metso's research and development are the responsibility of our business areas' research and technology development (RTD) organizations. Most of our RTD operations take place in Finland and Sweden, but Metso also has important units in North America and Central Europe.

The business areas' technology organizations cooperate in developing life cycle technologies and ICT platforms. We share the best practices in the innovation process development, industrial design, technology management, and in the administration and reporting of environmental issues and intellectual property rights. This work is coordinated by the Metso Technology Board and three corporate-wide groups - Technology Management Team, Environment Board and Intellectual Property Management Board.

Corporate-wide processes help us to target technology investments. Joint administration of research and development resources supports the business areas e.g. through technology reporting, research cooperation and coordination of knowledge management.

In 2003 we unified the launching, evaluation and targeting of our product development projects into the Metso Innovation Process. The systematic approach helps us to improve the efficiency of our product development and product portfolio management.

We develop our competence together with our partners to achieve critical development mass.
