Metso Became More International

Metso’s personnel structure supports the realization of strategic goals. During Metso’s transformation into a knowledge-based expert organization, a solid education basis is of integral importance. During the year under review Metso became more international than ever and the number of Metso employees grew into over 30,000.

Metso’s strategic targets require the availability of skilled employees in all business operations and market areas. Those working on the customer interface play a central role. They comprise over 3,000 marketing and sales responsibles, about 1,500 research and development experts focusing on the development of our products, services and technological know-how, and about 1,500 IT and automation professionals, who in addition to solutions provided to customers answer for the application of latest technology to Metso’s use. Alongside specialized experts, input from each and every Metso employee is needed in order to create a functioning company.

As a result of the integration between Metso Minerals and Svedala, Metso’s geographical presence in all central market areas improved significantly during the year. Metso is more international than ever. Over one third of all Metso employees are Finnish, one third represents other European countries and about 20 per cent are based in North America. Metso strengthened its operations in South America where about 2,000 Metso employees are currently based. In the Asia- Pacific region, Metso’s operations in China are growing strongly and in Australia, Metso is a significant employer. In South Africa, Metso employes nearly 1,500 persons.
