Lower production input with less waste

Environmental performance has been one of the major drivers in Metso Paper's OptiConcept development. OptiConcept process minimizes the consumption of virgin pulp as well as other production inputs, decreases fresh water consumption and improves energy efficiency with increased consistency and low friction components. Optimized processes together with efficient controls reduce the demand for high-quality raw material. Excellent runnability combined with speedy process control drastically reduces process waste.

Better pulp with less energy and lower emissions

Fiber-how is Metso Paper's way to turn unique pulp making know-how into customer success. It enables pulp producers to improve yield, enhance pulp quality, achieve cost savings, decrease energy consumption, optimize processes and minimize environmental impacts. In cooking, the SuperBatch technology produces pulp with better uniformity, yield and strength than any conventional system. For pulp washing Metso Paper has developed the TwinRoll, which enables minimizing both the effluent loads and water consumption. ZeTrac high-consistency ozone de-lignification technologies improve efficiency, lower bleaching costs and reduce effluent volumes without compromising fiber quality.

Mobile in-pit crushing

Metso Minerals' combined mobile LokoTrack and LokoLink system consists of self-moving crawler-mounted crusher which is connected to a mobile conveyor system. By using the mobile crusher and electrically driven conveyors there is no need to haul the rock to a stationary primary crusher. Elimination of dumpers improve energy efficiency and decrease air emissions, dust and noise as well as improve work safety.

Metals and construction material recycling

Material size reduction is essential for materials separation in recycling process. Metso Minerals crushers and separators provide prerequisites for proper metal scrap, construction waste and secondary material utilization. Particularly, in steel and aluminium production, use of scrap and secondary materials as raw materials in production processes provides extensive energy savings. In construction industry recycling the demolished buildings at site spares the environment by reducing the need for virgin rock deposits and resulting in less rock transport to new construction sites.

Minimized emissions through combustion management

The Fluidized Bed Boiler Combustion Management is a Stora Enso's Anjalankoski mill supervisory control application, which is used to automatically manage combustion. Improved combustion control is especially needed in boilers using several fuels with variations in the amounts and fuel qualities. The application minimizes flue gas emissions and improves combustion efficiency, while keeping selected process variables such as bed temperatures within selected limits.
