Videos: Cryogenic testing ensures performance in extreme process conditions

To ensure the reliable performance of our industrial valves in even the most severe process conditions, we put them through rigorous testing at Metso’s Valve Technology Centers.

In our technology center cryolab we subject valves to temperatures nearing -200°C by submerging them in liquid nitrogen and performing a comprehensive set of performance tests and measurements. Cryogenic testing is regularly carried out on valves at several of Metso’s locations around the world. We have well over 20 years of experience in this type of testing, and the newest state-of-the-art cryogenic testing facility in Helsinki, Finland (as seen on the video) started operations in 2011 alongside the new valve factory.

Since the industrial processes, such as LNG production, where cryogenic valves are used are known to be notoriously demanding and critical, our customers want to have concrete proof of performance and peace of mind. For this reason, we offer them the possibility to follow the testing process live via webcam and Skype. Our trained and experienced cryogenic specialists carry out testing according to procedures agreed with the customer inside a secure and carefully controlled laboratory setting, while the customer looks on from a safe distance via the live feed.

Take a look at this video to get a unique glimpse into cryogenic testing process in action.
