Kick-starting a career at Metso Outotec

We interviewed Mauri Kostiainen and Katariina Tarkkio about starting a career at Metso Outotec. Mauri joined Metso Outotec as a Summer Trainee a few years ago and is currently a Digitalization and Process Modelling Specialist. Katariina started as a Master Thesis Worker and is now a Process Metallurgist for the Flotation business line. Both Katariina and Mauri have studied sustainable metals processing in Aalto University.

What is the best thing, working at Metso Outotec?

“Best part of my job is, that it’s scientific, but at the same time, hands on”, Katariina says. Katariina likes that she gets to plan, execute, see the result, learn from her mistakes and continuously improve. She also appreciates the group of experts that she gets to bounce off ideas and brainstorm with.

Mauri enjoys trying and coming up with new ideas and new ways of working. He likes that the work is quite independent, but there are also people to support him, when necessary. “It’s rewarding when you get things done on your own and get to present your work and implement it in real life.”
