Louisa's experience of working in a global company

Louisa Gühr works as a Business Area Communications Intern at Metso Outotec. Read how she has experienced the multicultural working environment of Metso Outotec and what she has enjoyed the most about her work.

What do you do at Metso Outotec?

I work at the Helsinki headquarters office as a Business Area (BA) Communications Intern. In this position, I support the BA Communication partners in their internal and external BA -related communications. I get to work on exciting projects in which I meet people from all around the world. Although I only started my internship in February this year, I already got the chance to visit the Lokotrack Factory in Tampere, which was a truly exciting trip for me after having spent my first months working in projects in which I was constantly learning about Lokotracks. I was amazed to see the manufacturing area and the machines live. They are so much bigger than one imagines them to be – a Lokotrack is the size of a blue whale (wow!). 

I get to work on exciting projects in which I meet people from all around the world.

What is it like to work at Metso Outotec? 

To me, working at Metso Outotec equals to being in a safe, productive, high achieving and inclusive environment. Since it is a multinational company, it has not posed a problem that I do not speak fluent Finnish yet, which was an important factor for me as a relatively fresh migrant to Finland. In fact, thanks to the globalized environment in which we work, I have been able to speak my native languages (Spanish and German) with other colleagues, which always brings me joy. 

 

I have been surprised by how much I am learning about Metso Outotec’s industries. I would have never thought that I would be so excited to learn about stone crushing and processing, or precious metals recovery. But here I am, everyday more thankful and happy for having made the decision of choosing Metso Outotec to kickstart my career in Corporate communications. 

To me, working at Metso Outotec equals to being in a safe, productive, high achieving and inclusive environment.

What do you do in your free time? 

Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my soccer team. We have trainings 4-5 times a week and during the summer season we have matches almost every weekend. Soccer plays a really important role in my life; it is the sport that I have played my whole life, and it gives me the feeling of a perfect work-life balance.
