Plastic waste processing and bag opening
Gear up plastic recycling and simplify processing with efficient bag opening
Plastic compounds and plastic bags cause difficulties in many recycling processes. Plastic is often durable and stretchy, and its size and type varies from packages to film and covers. In order to effectively process waste that contains plastic, the plastic bags need to be opened and the size of other plastic components reduced quickly, right at the beginning of the recycling process.
Plastic bags and plastic films easily jam the recycling process. However, when the bags are opened and films reduced to a homogenous grain size, screening and separating plastic is no different than processing any other type of waste.
Plastic waste is a very valuable and versatile raw material. Plastic can be utilized in manufacturing new products, and due to its typically high calorific value, it is useful also in energy production in waste fuels, like residue derived fuel (RDF) and solid recovered fuel (SRF).
Metso’s pre-shredders and fine shredders are designed to process plastics in any shape or size. Tested and proven in multiple applications around the world, they take care of bag opening and reduce the waste to the desired grain size.
