Metso Corporation will surrender at least 1.5 million but not more than 1.7 million own shares as part of the payment arrangements in the acquisition of Centric's operations to Nordberg Group. The Corporation's own shares, with the face value of FIM 10 (EUR 1.68) each, are planned to be surrendered through the Helsinki Exchanges. After the terms and conditions of the acquisition have been met, the shares will be transferred to W. S. Tyler, Incorporated.

Surrendering of Metso Corporation's own shares will not begin until one week after the publication of the Board of Directors' decision i.e. not until November 12, 1999.

Metso Corporation's extraordinary shareholders' meeting held on August 18, 1999, authorized the Board of directors to decide on acquiring and surrendering the corporation's own shares.
