Metso Paper has signed a 5-year maintenance agreement with Papiers Gaspésia in Quebec, Canada for their paper production line. Metso Paper will provide maintenance management services and preventive maintenance tools for PM1. Metso Paper will also provide maintenance data integration jointly with Metso Automation. The value of the agreement is not disclosed. The agreement represents Metso Paper's business concept covering the entire life cycle of the customers' processes including new machines and processes, service operations, process improvements and rebuilds.
According to the service agreement Metso Paper will ensure that proactive daily maintenance routines and procedures are brought into the mill's long-term use. Metso Paper's maintenance services will be supported through its remote connections and the Internet-based Metso Portal for access to Metso's global expertise.
The agreement will complement Metso Paper's ongoing deliveries to Papiers Gaspésia. In July 2002, Papiers Gaspesia ordered from Metso Paper a major rebuild of its on-line supercalandered and coated printing and writing paper line. The rebuild, which will cover all the main sections of the paper making line, will be completed during 2004.
Papiers Gaspésia, located in Chandler, the province of Quebec, is a limited partnership of the Fonds de Solidarité des travailleurs du Québec (FTQ), SGF Rexfor Inc., and Tembec Inc. It was formed after the FTQ purchased the Chandler facility from Abitibi-Consolidated.
