Autogenous grinding mills (AG mills)

Ideal for finely grinding competent ores

Autogenous mills, or AG mills, can accomplish the same size reduction work as two or three stages of crushing and screening. Often used in grinding at modern mineral processing plants, AG mills reduce the material directly to the desired final size or prepare it for the following grinding stages.

Lower lifetime cost

Simpler process requires lower capital and maintenance costs.

Versatile applications

Wide range of mill sizes available. Optimal for both dry and wet grinding.

Efficiency through automatic operation

Save power, grinding media, and linear wear while increasing capacity.

Innovative mill drive

Twice the power transmission with Metso Qdx4TM mill drive.

Reliable AG mills for higher quality at a lower cost

Versatile applications

AG milling extends itself to many applications due to the range of mill sizes available. AG mills can accomplish the same size reduction work as two or three stages of crushing and screening, a rod mill and some or all of the work done by a ball mill.

AG mills are also an optimum solution for wet grinding since crushing and screening in these cases can be difficult, if not impossible.

Lower lifetime cost

The range of mill sizes and versatile applications allow AG milling to be accomplished with fewer lines than conventional set-ups. This, in turn, contributes to lower capital and maintenance costs for an AG mill circuit.

Efficiency through automatic operation

Metso’s process engineers will assist you in creating an efficient software-driven process, from circuit design to start-up and optimization, to ensure you get your desired grinding results.

Through automatic operation it is possible to save power, grinding media, and linear wear, while increasing capacity.

Innovative mill drive for twice the power transmission

The Metso Qdx4TM mill drive provides the next step in the evolution of change in mill drive architecture, while allowing the system to be built with components that are within current manufacturing capabilities. We are essentially providing up to twice the power transmission of a conventional dual pinion drive.

Gearless mill drive (GMD) technology has further expanded the use of large AG milling allowing Metso to produce the world's largest SAG mill of 42’ in diameter drawing power at 28 MW.

Today, Metso is the world leading supplier of gearless AG mills operating globally.
