Los Trigales adds 80,000 tons to its monthly aggregate production

With a monthly production of 80,000 tons (and processing approximately 960,000 tons per year), Los Trigales is the first company in South America to implement the Nordplant solution. Omar Bustos, Chairman of Grupo Los Trigales, points out that, “This is a strategic plant for the Group’s operations. Metso was up to the challenge when it assembled the solution in two months, saving us 40% on assembly costs.”

Los Trigales is a Paraguayan business group dedicated to transport, construction and aggregates. They operate in Paraguay and other countries in the region and have the operational and technical capacity to carry out large-scale transport, construction and infrastructure projects.

The challenge the company faced was to sustainably and solidly increase their production of high-quality aggregates using technology that was also sustainable over time. This meant adding 80,000 tons to their current monthly production, which is 960,000 tons per year.

Metso Nordplant up and running in two months

Los Trigales needed a solution that provided confidence in a range of aspects, such as quality of the material produced, accessibility and immediacy of maintenance service, and a good annual production quota. After technical meetings with the company, the specialists at Metso determined that Metso Nordplant solution was the best fit for their needs and it would give them the most confidence to achieve their goals.

This plant was chosen because, among other things, it allows for the quickest installation and fit – and with one point of contact. Using a traditional model, the installation would take at least 6 months and would also required time to be invested in the design and implementation of the electrical, mechanical and civil works with more than one supplier. The Metso Nordplant, by contrast, is a “plug and play” solution, as Metso takes the project and delivers the plant in optimal operating conditions without any inconveniences.

40% savings on assembly costs

“We are very happy. This is a strategic plant for the Group’s operations, and Metso was up to the challenge when it assembled the solution in two months, saving us 40% on assembly costs. Furthermore, all of our requests were resolved by Metso, as the single supplier,” highlights Omar Bustos, Chairman of Grupo Los Trigales.

For his part, Guillermo Irigoitia, director of Irimaq, official and exclusive distributors of Metso in Paraguay, says that "the most valuable thing that Los Trigales acquires is the world-class design engineering that Metso develops in its Nordplant solutions. It is a result of decades of leadership and experience of a brand specializing in aggregates."

And he emphasizes that "We only work with first class brands, that's why we proposed this solution to the client, because we were sure it would be successful and that's the way it was".

“Of the Nordplant solutions, this plant was the one that adapted to the client’s production and quality requirements (format, granulometry, low pollution rates.) This product was developed based on systems engineering fieldwork and theory, and it has involved listening to our clients and their needs. That’s why the Nordplant fixed installation saves the client time spent on engineering, installation and civil works. It also provides efficiencies with regards to plant arrangements, ensuring versatile, high-quality production,” says Eliana Rodriguez, Distribution Business Director Pacific Rim at Metso.

With regards to Los Trigales’ technical requirements, the solution has a primary crushing stage with a Nordberg® C120™ jaw crusher and the heavy-duty Metso VF561-2v™ grizzly feeder. Subsequently, it has a scalper to remove fines. This is ideal for the project because of the characteristics of the material being processed and the humidity content in the bank. The process had to ensure a high-quality, contaminant-free product. For secondary and tertiary crushing, the plant uses Nordberg® HP300™ cones and two screening modules of high efficiency and capacity.

Future work together

“We are waiting for the results and to see how this year unfolds economically to evaluate the possibility of increasing our production by integrating another Nordplant solution at our facilities,” says Omar Bustos.

It should be noted that Los Trigales has invested significantly in Metso solutions, including a Metso Lokotrack® and a Metso NW Series plant, both of which are crucial to the development of aggregate plans for the company in Paraguay. “These investments are a sign of the trust and close relationship that both companies have built over time,” says Eliana Rodriguez, Distribution Business Director Pacific Rim at Metso at Metso.
