Outotec's sustainability report chosen as the best in Finland by Media and NGOs

OUTOTEC OYJ PRESS RELEASE NOVEMBER 26, 2015 at 10:00 AM
Outotec's sustainability report chosen as the best in Finland by Media and NGOs
Outotec received for the fourth consecutive year Readers' Choice award, this year in two categories, by Media and NGOs, in the competition evaluating 173 corporate responsibility reports of Finnish companies. Outotec's sustainability report 2014 was amongst the top 10 reports in the competition. This year the evaluated themes were human rights, circular economy, diversity, supply chains and tax footprint. The winner in the overall competition was Stora Enso Oyj.
"For journalists the CSR report is merely a tool. Outotec' report was visually appealing and easy to read. Responsible reporting discusses and elaborates also reasons why the company did not perform as good as last year or as expected. Someone following the company does not want to hear problems to be belittled. Outotec stood out in that respect", says editor-in-chief for Arvopaperi magazine Eljas Repo.
"Tough times force companies to focus on the core. At this time, it is interesting to evaluate how corporate social responsibility remains in the core of businesses. Outotec's report portraits a company who wants to take an active role and who wants to leave behind a positive environmental handprint. Outotec holds active stakeholder dialogue and brings the CSR topics to the public discussion, too", notes Leo Stranius, Executive Director at The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.
"We greatly appreciate that the representatives of media and NGO chose our report their number one choice for the best report. Sustainability is a key element in our strategy, and therefore it is of vital importance that we are able to tell our story in a clear way and report transparently about our operations", states Outotec's CEO Pertti Korhonen.
The jury had representatives from seven organizing parties: Aalto University School of Economics, The Finnish Institute of Authorized Public Accountants, Ministry of Employment and the Economy, Ministry of the Environment, The Association for Environmental Management (YJY), Nasdaq Helsinki, and Finnish Business & Society.
The competition evaluated 173 corporate responsibility reports, including all Nasdaq OMX Helsinki listed companies. The winners were selected among 10 companies who received the highest scores in the evaluation. The competition aims to examine the present state of corporate responsibility reporting and its trends.
