Metso to deliver copper processing technologies to Viscaria mine in Sweden

Metso Corporation’s press release on September 8, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. EEST

Metso and Gruvaktiebolaget Viscaria have signed an agreement for the delivery of key process equipment for the Viscaria copper mine in Kiruna, Sweden. The agreement supports the project’s transition into the execution phase. With an annual production of 120,000 tonnes of copper concentrate, Viscaria aims to become Sweden’s second-largest copper producer and play an important role in the European copper market.

The value of the order is approximately EUR 40 million, and it is booked in the Minerals segment’s 2026 third-quarter orders received.

“Our continued cooperation with Metso marks an important step in the development of the project and in the transition towards the execution phase. By consolidating the delivery of all process equipment, which is the project’s largest investment, into a single contract, we can continue detailed engineering, secure the procurement of critical process equipment, and increase predictability in project execution,” says Charlotte Odenberger, COO of Viscaria.

“Viscaria is one of Europe’s most significant mining development projects, and we are pleased to continue supporting its progress with our process technology expertise. Our involvement from the early stages of the project, combined with this broad equipment scope, demonstrates the strength of our offering and our ability to support customers from project development through execution and beyond. We look forward to contributing to the long-term success of the Viscaria mine,” says Renaud Lapointe, President, Market Area Europe and Central Asia at Metso.
