Metso fire-retardant rubber screening media is tested under controlled conditions, with supervision by trained fire response personnel and in an isolated environment. Testing demonstrates the material's ability to help limit fire propagation compared with conventional rubber compounds.

Flammability testing

Fire performance requirements vary between regions, industries, and individual operations. To support customers in managing fire-related risks, Metso's fire-retardant rubber compounds are tested against recognized global and regional flammability standards.

One example is UL94 V-0, a widely recognized international standard for evaluating flammability performance, which the material currently meets. The UL94 V-0 classification indicates that the material:

  • Self-extinguishes within 10 seconds after flame application under UL94 V-0 test conditions
  • Does not produce flaming drips that ignite cotton placed below the specimen

These properties help limit fire propagation and contribute to safer operating conditions in screening applications.
