From concept to customer impact: the evolution of Metso's Mesa Service Center and Training Center

As demand for critical minerals continues to grow, so does the need for reliable service, skilled workforces, and trusted partnerships. Metso's new Mesa Service Center and Training Center were designed with exactly that in mind—bringing together advanced repair capabilities and immersive training experiences to help customers improve safety, performance, and productivity.

Giuseppe Campanelli, President of Market Area North and Central America, shared his vision for Metso's footprint in the Southwest United States:

“Our customer base here in the Southwest United States is producing very important critical minerals for the energy transition, the majority of it being copper. We're seeing growing demand, and our expansion was designed to help customers with the solutions and services they need to keep their operations running."

The investment significantly expands Metso's service capabilities while bringing customers closer to the expertise needed to support equipment throughout its lifecycle.

"The service center expansion means faster service for our customers in the Southwest," says Martin Karlsson, Vice President Sales and Service USA. "We now have the capabilities to support all of our core technologies throughout the lifecycle of the asset, alongside a state-of-the-art training facility that will help customers operate their assets more effectively and ultimately reduce downtime."

A key feature of the new facility is the Metso Training Center, which blends classroom instruction with real-world application.

"The new Metso Training Center allows us to create a truly dynamic learning experience," says Nichole Pritchard, Director, Commercial & Sales Enablement at Metso Academy. "Participants gain theoretical knowledge in the classroom and then step directly onto the equipment floor to apply what they've learned in a practical environment."

Enhanced Repair Capabilities for Faster, More Reliable Service

The Mesa expansion significantly increases Metso's ability to support customers throughout the lifecycle of their equipment.

"The Mesa expansion includes a 17,000-square-foot addition to our service center, a new 3,000-square-foot shipping and receiving area, a dedicated 7,000-square-foot training center, and new machining capabilities," says Michael Granato, Senior Manager, Field Services USA. "For our customers, that means higher quality, increased capacity, greater throughput, and shorter lead times."

The expanded facility enables faster turnaround times and enhanced repair capabilities, helping customers maximize equipment availability and performance.

"I think there are three main benefits customers receive when they choose a repair with Metso," says Mike Santaluce, VP, Repairs Product Group. "First, it's an OEM-certified repair backed by our warranty. Second, we can manage the entire repair process from start to finish. And third, repairing equipment is often a more sustainable solution than purchasing new."

But the Mesa expansion is about more than equipment and infrastructure—it's about building stronger partnerships with customers.

"Our customers are increasingly looking to us for knowledge transfer and collaboration to help maintain their operations," says Jonathan Halvorson, Manager of USA Field Services. "It's not just about fixing equipment; it's about helping customers build capability within their own organizations."

That proactive approach is central to the vision behind the new facility.

"Ultimately, we're in a partnership with our customers," adds Ananje Balkowski, Director, USA Field Services. "Our goal is to help move the industry from a reactive maintenance mindset to a more proactive approach that improves safety, reliability, and long-term performance."

By bringing together advanced service capabilities, hands-on training, and technical expertise in a single location, the Mesa Service Center and Training Center represents a long-term investment in customer success—and in the future of mining across the Southwest.
