HSC Chemistry Public Course
HSC is a software toolkit designed to quickly and easily perform thermodynamic and mineral processing calculations on a standard computer. It allows you to develop new processes and improve existing ones through modeling and simulation.
We invite all existing HSC users and those interested in exploring HSC capabilities to join our annual training from June 2 to June 12, 2025. You can participate onsite in Espoo or online. However, the best learning experience and results are achieved through onsite participation.
This year, we offer nine different courses, ranging from high-level introductions to process-specific deep dives. We recommend everyone start with the HSC Basic & Equilibrium and HSC Sim Basics courses, as this information is needed for the more advanced Mineral Processing, Hydrometallurgy, and Pyrometallurgy courses.
Please confirmed your reservation at the HSC Chemistry Webshop the latest by May 18th, 2025 for onsite training and by May 25th, 2025 for online training!

List of HSC Public courses 2025:
HSC Basic & Equilibrium: June 2, 2025, Petri Kobylin / Antti Roine
HSC Basic course focuses on general information, which is needed to specify a practical problem in the calculation modules, run the calculations, and analyze the results. Participants will learn what can be done with the HSC package and some ideas on what cannot be done. These skills are also needed in the more advanced HSC Sim Hydro, Sim Pyro, and Sim Mineral Processing courses.
HSC Sim Basics: June 3, 2025, Tuukka Kotiranta / Matti Hietala / Cesar Araujo
This course gives an overview of the basic HSC operation principles, and the major procedures needed to solve more complicated problems with the HSC software. The course will also illustrate thermochemistry application possibilities in practical problems.
HSC Sim Pyro: June 4 – 5, 2025, Jonna Piironen
This course focuses on HSC Sim distribution mode applications. Typically, these are used to simulate pyrometallurgical processes, but they may also be applied in many other areas.
HSC Sim Hydro: June 4 - 5, 2025, Tuukka Kotiranta / Cesar Araujo
This course focuses on HSC Sim reaction mode applications. Typically, these are used to simulate hydrometallurgical processes, but they may also be applied in many other areas.
HSC Sim Pyro & Hydro Dynamic: June 6, 2025, Tuukka Kotiranta / Cesar Araujo
This course focuses on HSC Sim distribution mode applications in dynamic mode.
HSC Sim Mineral Processing: June 9 - 11, 2025, Caroline Izart
The course focuses on HSC Sim Particles mode applications. Typically, these are used in minerals processing simulations, but they may also be applied in many other areas, e.g. recycling.
HSC Sim Mineral Processing Mass Bal & Model fit: June 11 – 12, 2025, Caroline Izart
The course studies HSC Sim particle mode applications more deeply covering data reconciliation using HSC Mass Balance and model fitting of flotation data with HSC Sim Model Fit.
HSC Geo & Liberations: June 12, 2025, Jussi Liipo
Geometallurgy requires a practical, fast, and inexpensive method to quantify mineral compositions. This is possible using the HSC Geo module in HSC.
Sustainable Processes with HSC Process Models: June 12, 2025, Jonna Piironen
The mining, minerals and base metals industry has a significant impact on the environment. Sustainable Processes with HSC Process Models course studies how environmental footprints of processes can be calculated via the LCA principle on the HSC Sim.
