Grupo Ravi recycles tile production surplus waste with low wear and minimal downtime with Metso Nordtrack™ I908S impact crusher

Grupo Ravi specializes in the recycling of non-hazardous industrial waste. They work with tile factories in the Castellón region, a major hub for Spanish ceramic tile production. As the tile producers are increasing the volume of recycled raw material in tile production and relying on Grupo Ravi to crush the surplus production, Grupo Ravi needed to improve its output to meet that demand.

Better profitability with constant production, higher throughput and lower wear

The introduction of the Metso crusher into the waste management process has quickly translated into results. The consistently performing Metso Nordtrack™ I908S has proven capable of handling porcelain tile waste, despite the material’s specific demands. It runs with much greater reliability and throughput compared to the previous solution. The capacity of 0-60 mm product results in up to 150- 200 tonnes per hour capacity. With the I908S hanging screen it is possible to separate light materials, such as plastics and wood, with a 60 mm screen mesh to the side conveyor to keep the end product clean.

For high wear of the porcelain, the impactor crusher has chrome iron hammers with ceramic inserts. After the material is crushed with the impactor it is finalized with a VSI crusher.  “The machine works many more hours per day. The crusher has less wear and tear, as well as much greater production than previously,” Tenas explains.

Due to the reliability and more efficient production, Metso’s machine is also a significantly more cost-effective solution, according to Tenas. “The machine’s profitability is significant due to the lack of incidents halting production. There’s greater efficiency, improved flow of the crushed waste, and better output of the final product”.

High degree of material recovery

Francisco Dasí, manager of Truck & Ma, recalls the earlier challenges of dealing with the waste material: “Initially, we didn’t have any solution for this type of porcelain tile waste. The benefits of the Metso crusher have been very satisfactory.” The crusher now enables processing the waste efficiently and making the most of the recovered material: “Our client is taking advantage of all this waste by using absolutely everything. It is reduced, treated, and monetized in such a way that it can be returned to the market as the original product.”
