Lift the railcar during dumping

Lower capital and installation costs - and long term, simple operation

Rotaside dumpers lift and invert the railcar for unloading. This yields: 

  • Reduced depth of receiving hopper, minimizing civil work and foundation requirements.
  • More flexibility in discharging to conveyors, feeders or bunkers.
  • Less maintenance due to fewer component parts.
  • Lower capital equipment and installation costs. 

  • Typically used in lower throughput, random railcar unloading operations (strings of 50 railcars at an average of 25 cars per hour) where the railcars need to be uncoupled for tipping; however, the Rotaside can be designed to accommodate much higher efficiency and throughputs of up to 40 cars per hour (and up to 60 cars per hour in tandem barrel operations).
  • Rotaside® style dumpers offer greater flexibility in the sizes of railcars being handled. Taller railcars are also no problem as the cars are being lifted and inverted, not rolled.
  • The highlift version of a Rotaside® dumper lifts before inverting yielding generally slower tip rates, but can be designed to dump at ground level.
  • Rotaside® style dumpers utilize fewer component parts compared to rotary and crescent design dumpers.

How it works

The Rotaside® dumper operates by lifting and inverting loaded railcars over a trackside hopper. The design reduces the overall length of the machine in direct relation to the longest car that it must handle. Two Rotaside® dumpers can be installed in tandem for discharging two coupled railcars simultaneously.
