Sustainable water use

Sustainable water use

HydroLoop is designed to support long‑term, environmentally responsible water management.

Over 99% water reuse

By capturing, filtering, and recirculating water in a sealed loop, HydroLoop reduces water consumption by more than 99% compared to traditional open‑loop Symons water‑seal systems. For many operations, this can save up to 19 million liters (5 million gallons) per machine annually.

Reduced environmental impact

The dramatic reduction in water intake:

  • lowers the site’s environmental footprint,
  • reduces the burden on municipal or natural water sources,
  • supports compliance with tightening regional water‑use regulations.
Even at water‑abundant sites like Lexington Quarry, HydroLoop demonstrated how closed‑loop systems contribute to more responsible resource use.

Alignment with sustainability goals

HydroLoop meets the criteria for the Metso Plus label by delivering significant reductions in water usage and improving operational efficiency with no change to the crusher itself. As companies face increasing pressure to reduce environmental impact, HydroLoop offers a practical and effective upgrade path.

Operational benefits

HydroLoop delivers value across performance, labor efficiency, equipment life and reliability.

Consistent, controlled water flow

The system maintains a steady 10–12 GPM sealing flow, preventing the fluctuations common in open‑loop pond‑fed or municipal water systems. This consistent flow improves sealing performance and reduces contamination risk.

Lower labor requirements

By removing the need to manage external pumps, thaw frozen lines or diagnose water‑supply issues, HydroLoop frees operators to focus on production. In a case study, teams saw immediate labor relief due to fewer repetitive maintenance tasks.

Enhanced equipment protection

Efficient filtration, capturing significant sediment before it reaches the crusher, helps protect internal components and extends equipment life. This is particularly valuable in dusty environments like limestone quarries.

Low-risk, high-reliability design

With rugged stainless‑steel construction, commercial‑grade pumps, and available redundant mining configurations, HydroLoop ensures continuous and dependable operation even under demanding conditions.

Installation process

Installation process

The Symons HydroLoop upgrade is engineered for simplicity from the moment it arrives on site. Because it uses the same standard water‑seal connections as existing Symons systems, installation requires no modifications to the crusher and only minimal electrical adjustments.

In our test case at Lexington Quarry,  connecting the system, securing utilities, and verifying water flow was finished during a scheduled shutdown in just two hours, demonstrating HydroLoop’s true plug‑and‑play design.

Its compact footprint allows the unit to be placed several meters away from the machine, supported by forklift channels and lifting eyes for safe transport. The stainless‑steel tank, filtration assembly, motor, and pump are preconfigured, making the upgrade straightforward and low‑risk for both aggregates and mining environments.

Winter operation

Cold‑weather performance is one of HydroLoop’s standout advantages. By operating as a sealed, closed‑loop system, HydroLoop allows sites to run glycol or antifreeze through the circuit to prevent freezing—eliminating the daily winter struggle of draining hoses, thawing lines and reconnecting water sources.

At Lexington Quarry, this feature alone transformed winter routines. Once HydroLoop was installed, operators simply pressed the start button and experienced no frozen lines, no delays, and no repeated morning prep in temperatures that previously created significant downtime.

This reliable cold‑weather operation is made possible by:

  • Stable 10–12 GPM sealing water flow
  • Sealed design protected from ambient temperature swings
  • Compatibility with antifreeze mixtures for harsh climates
