The general purpose of Metso’s OKTOP® scrubbers is to minimize the amount of emission that is released into the atmosphere. OKTOP® scrubbers provides maximum efficiency in removing emissions from the processes. In some processes there is a large amount of vapor released. It is important to note that this is not emission as vapor consists mostly of water.

Additionally, the residual chemicals and other debris from the processes are cleaned promptly, preventing other subsequent equipment in the plant from scaling, corroding, and malfunctioning. Valuable components / chemicals are also recycled back to the process.

Efficient gas scrubbing for lower emissions

The OKTOP® vent gas scrubbers are designed to scrub/wash exhaust gases containing chemical residues and contaminants from the hydrometallurgical processes before releasing to the environment. The scrubbers remove common contaminants from the gases including fine acidic liquid droplets, emission chemicals such as H2S and SO2, and fine dust particles, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Reliable operation and optimized performance

The fundamental operating principle in OKTOP® vent gas scrubbers is straightforward. The scrubber operates with high-pressure nozzles that inject a cleaning solution—typically water or an alkaline solution with high pH—into the gas stream. As the gas to be scrubbed/cleaned penetrates through the cleaning solution, this creates droplets in which the contaminants become neutralized by the cleaning solution. After this, a lamella pattern droplet separator ensures any remaining residues are trapped before the cleaned gas is released.

Key operating parameters, such as nozzle pressure, nozzle angle and droplet size, are adjusted and optimized based on the characteristics of the inlet gas to be cleaned. Nozzle pressure is particularly critical in controlling droplet size, ensuring an efficient and effective cleaning with a minimal environmental impact.

For enhanced flexibility, we also provide OKTOP® hybrid scrubbers, a unique combination of scrubber set-up. By combining the OKTOP® Venturi scrubber with either the OKTOP® packed bed scrubber or OKTOP® spray chamber scrubber, this leads to optimized performance.

Additionally, our OKTOP® Cascade scrubbers are available in both rectangular and cylindrical designs, making them ideal and flexible in Acid Mist Capturing System (AMCS) environments.
