Conveyor belt secondary cleaners

Conveyor belt secondary cleaners

The right cleaner lasts longer

Secondary cleaners are used to remove fines from a conveyor belt. Many conveyor belts can be satisfactorily cleaned with a primary and a secondary cleaner, but in some applications an even higher efficiency is achieved by utilizing additional secondary cleaners.
Versatility

The most complete product range on the market to maximize output and safety of your conveyor operations.

One-stop partner

Dedicated to keeping your operation as productive and profitable as possible.

Sustainability

Durable conveyor parts designed for long component life.

Reduced downtime

Smart, simple design that makes parts efficient, robust and maintenance friendly.

Selecting an optimal secondary cleaner

In the majority of cases, the secondary belt cleaner is positioned immediately after the head pulley with the purpose of removing the remaining fines left on the belt. Different designs and material construction are available, all with the goal of maintaining continual belt pressure and a clean surface — without damaging the belt. Many feature economical reversible designs to double wear life, and/or modular change-outs which minimize overall waste. Improved performance, maintaining belt life, and extending wear-utility all positively work toward your sustainability mission.

We recommend that a combination of primary and secondary belt cleaners be used.

Metso supplies different sizes of conveyor systems depending on the volume of material to be conveyed. Belt speed, belt size and pulley diameter all vary.

We do not classify our solutions according to industry segments, but rather according to the application within the segment. That’s because we’ve noticed 70% - 80% of conveyors used in mining are at the smaller end of the scale, even though this is where you also find some of the biggest conveyors. In other words, the application counts more than the industry.

Conveyor belt secondary cleaners - Selection quide

  1. Different secondary cleaner models are presented in the image on the left. Every cleaner is numbered and the number is the same as used in the table below.
  2. Find the belt speed and width, and select the cleaner model that fits your requirements in the table below.
  3. If you end up with more than one option, refine your search by checking the material and application that is also presented in the table.
  4. If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your Metso representative

If the application temperature is above 70°C or below -30°C, the type of the belt spice is not vulcanised, or the belt is reversing instead of one-way, please contact your Metso representative.

Please note that you can contact us by using "Mining" and "Aggregates" contact forms on this page even if your application is in a different industry.

Trellex ABC-BRUSH secondary cleaner's properties and features

Trellex ABC-BRUSH is ideal for cleaning cleated belts, helping maintain a clean surface without damaging the belt’s profile. It is also a good complement to cleaners on standard smooth belts where fine, dry materials are being conveyed.

Material properties

Our brushes are made of high-quality, hardwearing nylon. We also offer brushes made with a combination of nylon and steel for use in the glass recycling industry. A central core of lightweight plastic (polypropylene) makes installation and section replacements easy.

Special features

The brush tube consists of 150 mm long modules. This saves on replacement parts, as well as giving complete size flexibility and guaranteeing availability. For a larger belt, just add more sections. The belt brush is driven by a fully encapsulated drum motor. This is not only a space-efficient alternative to an external motor but also highly reliable since no dust or dirt can enter and interfere with its mechanical moving parts.

Trellex ABC-T-HS RU features
Trellex ABC-T-HS RU features

Trellex ABC-T-HS RU secondary cleaner is suitable for less abrasive material applications such as pulp and paper, and wood handling.

Material properties

A hardened steel blade makes this cleaner a cost-effective option for handling non-abrasive materials. The blade is molded into soft rubber so each cleaner section can move flexibly and work independently from others in the row.

Special features

Trellex ABC-T-HS RU sits at 90 degrees to the belt surface, which dramatically reduces or practically eliminates the risk of damaging the belt. Additionally, if the belt surface is slightly uneven, the soft rubber construction yields naturally to its contours, preventing damage. The cleaner can be installed both inside and outside the chute.

Trellex ABC U-HMS secondary cleaner's properties and features

The U-type Trellex ABC U-HMS secondary cleaner efficiently removes water and sticky carryback materials and protects the belt in most applications. The parabolic form ensures that the blade has constant contact with the center of the belt, erasing the traces of even most difficult unwanted materials after the primary cleaner. To achieve the best result, it is necessary to install both primary and secondary cleaners.

Material properties
The blade has tungsten carbide inserts coupled with polyurethane backings. The tungsten carbide inserts scrape the sticking material off the belt, while the cleaning is finished by the PU backings removing the wet materials. The ABC U-HMS cleaner is designed for dirty environments and it is installed anywhere down on the conveyor line after the head pulley.

Special features
The tungsten carbide inserts of the blade are overlapping, leaving no gap between the inserts where the material can pass. The inserts are embedded in polyurethane, giving the blade a smooth start, and a dual-hardness function to get the right tension against the belt, and to protect the belt instead of wearing it. A wear indicator placed outside the chute indicates in a safe way when it is the time to change the blades.
