Opportunities in Finland

We offer various Summer Trainee opportunities in different fields for students in Finland. In 2024, we employed over 280 Summer Trainees from 20 different nationalities across our locations. As a global company, we operate in close to 50 countries, offering opportunities to work with colleagues globally. Like our full-time staff, you’ll work alongside people passionate about making a positive change in the world through sustainable solutions. You'll collaborate and take on responsibility early on while your team supports you along the way.

Our Summer Trainee positions are mainly located in Espoo, Lappeenranta, Pori and Tampere.

How to apply

Create a candidate profile

1. The application process starts by filling in an application on the Metso career page. All open summer trainee positions are found here. If this is your first time applying for a job at Metso, you must create a candidate account with your personal details. After you submit your application, you will receive an email asking you to verify your email address.

2. Once your account is created, you are ready to apply for the position of interest or submit applications for several jobs through the candidate portal. You can apply for as many positions as you wish, and we can accept applications through the recruitment system and cannot accept applications via email.

3. Once we receive your application, you will receive a confirmation email from the system.

How to create a great application

Our goal in the recruitment process is to get to know you, your experience, and your reasons for applying for a specific position. In your application, highlight your relevant experience and strengths, including:

Previous internships
Relevant coursework and projects
Key skills
Personal qualities that fit the position

When describing your experiences, emphasize how they make you a strong candidate for the role. Be sure to explain why you're interested in this traineeship and what you hope to gain from it. Tailor your application to the specific position and team, using clear and concise language to highlight your qualifications and motivations.

Please attach your CV and cover letter with your application. Academic transcripts are optional. Note that the expected monthly salary for our full-time trainee roles is between 2065 and 2875 euros. The exact salary will depend on your completed academic credits and the job location. Ensure that all documents are finalized before submission and uploaded as PDF files to maintain consistent formatting.

How to look for suitable positions

All available positions can be found on the 'Open Jobs' page. Use the filters to search for jobs by specific job families and locations in Finland. To find all Summer Trainee positions, simply enter 'Summer Trainee' in the search bar.

Recruitment process

Hiring managers will review all applications and select the most qualified candidates for the next phase. If you’re selected, the hiring manager will contact you by phone or email to discuss the next steps. We will keep all applicants updated throughout the process and reach out separately for each position you’ve applied for.

Interviews

If you’re selected for an interview, we’ll contact you to schedule it. Interviews usually take place in one or two rounds, either in person, by phone, or virtually. We’re flexible with the format, so feel free to let us know your preference. For some positions, a video interview (Recright) or a candidate assessment tool may be part of the process.

The interview is your chance to ask questions and learn more about Metso, the position, and the team. We recommend preparing by reviewing your qualifications and experience, as well as thinking of any questions you have about the job or the company. The hiring manager will conduct the interview.

After the interview, we will follow up with all candidates to provide updates and gather feedback. If you’re not selected for the Summer Trainee program, we encourage you to apply again in the future. Stay in touch with us through social media for updates.

Timeline

Start of the Traineeship

After the interview process is concluded you will receive a job contract to sign and agree on a suitable start date with your supervisor, and most of the start dates are during May, 2025.
Before your first day, you’ll receive an information package about the traineeship and your first week at Metso via email.
During the first week at Metso, you’ll begin the onboarding with your team, buddy, and the HR team.
You’ll get to participate in different summer trainee activities and events and network with fellow trainees and people at Metso throughout the summer. We’re looking forward to meeting you in summer 2025!

Yes, we offer opportunities for first-year students. While the nature of our summer trainee positions may require a certain level of experience and academic progression, we also offer more hands-on and administrative roles that may align with the skills and interests of first-year students. We recognize the importance of providing opportunities for students at all levels and encourage you to apply even though you only check some of the requirements in the job ad.

No, most of our summer jobs do not require knowledge of Finnish. However, due to the nature of the work and safety, some positions might require knowledge of the Finnish language. The language requirements are clearly stated in all of our job ads.

The summer job period is between May and August, and the timing is flexible depending on the needs of the summer trainee and the team. Most of our summer trainees start in May.

Most of our summer trainees work full-time (37.5 or 40 hours per week), depending on the role. Flexible working hours are also possible depending on the nature of the work and team practices.

We offer flexible working opportunities. However, the team's ways of working are discussed with your manager and team.

Although we cannot promise opportunities after the summer, many of our summer trainees continue at Metso after the summer, and over 60% of our summer trainees continue, for example, as thesis workers, part-time trainees during their studies, or full-time employees.

After you have sent your application, you will receive a separate confirmation email. We review all applications at the latest after the application period ends, and we can invite applicants to an interview already during the application period. We receive a high number of applications annually, and it can take a while to go through all the applications carefully. The hiring manager invites the most suitable applicants for a job interview based on the applications. The interviews are usually held in Teams or in-person, and we offer flexibility regarding suitable interview models. We aim to complete the final selections as soon as possible after the interviews. After the selection, the selected candidate will receive the job offer and agree on practical matters with their hiring manager. Summer job contracts are signed in March, and the summer job usually starts in May.
