Ausmelt-lance
At the heart of Metso’s Ausmelt TSL technology is the vertically suspended Ausmelt lance, through which oxygen enriched air and fuel are introduced to the molten bath. Providing high-intensity bath mixing and precise operational control, the lance delivers efficient and stable process operation across a wide range of conditions.

Primary functions of the Ausmelt lance are to control the furnace temperature and promote intense bath mixing and agitation for efficient mass and energy transfer. Fuel injection via the lance provides independent bath temperature and oxygen potential (pO2) control and consequently improvements in metal recoveries and product quality. Introduction of post-combustion air and oxygen above the bath via the lance shroud also facilitates heat recovery to the process for increased energy efficiency.

Operation

The lance is mounted on a movable trolley which supports both the lance and flexible catenary hoses that deliver fuel, air and oxygen to the process.  Lance positioning and control of lance air and oxygen flows are regulated via the Ausmelt PCS, ensuring safe and efficient plant operation.

Lance operation can be further enhanced by Metso’s range of digital offerings including lance motion and Metso’s Ausmelt TSL process advisor which provide real-time feedback and guidance on process and equipment operation.
