Expanding pumping solutions for demanding applications

Last updated Aug 2026
Metso has signed an agreement to acquire peristaltic hose pump and progressive cavity pump technologies, as well as related aftermarket spare parts and service offering capabilities, from Valmet, a global technology leader in serving process industries. The acquisition strengthens Metso’s capabilities in slurry handling by broadening its portfolio with advanced pumping solutions for demanding process conditions in mining and industrial applications. With this aqusition, Metso expands its pumping solutions offering across the full mining flowsheet. The combined portfolio, covering pumps, hydrocyclones, valves, hoses, and services, enables customers to optimize performance, improve reliability, reduce downtime, reduce total cost of ownership, and support efficient operation in demanding conditions.
Expanded application coverage

More solutions for abrasive, viscous and high solids media.

Complementary technologies

Adds new pump technologies to handle different types of media and process conditions.

Full flowsheet capability

Stronger support across slurry handling applications.

Increased customer value

Supports reliability, uptime and efficient operation.

A short introduction to the new offering

The solutions presented on this page that are part of the acquisition will be transitioned to the Metso brand upon completion of the transaction, in line with the preliminary brand layouts displayed on this website. The transaction is expected to close on October 1, 2026.

Hose pumps for transfer
Hose pumps for transfer

Hose pumps for abrasive and high solids applications

These hose pumps are designed for demanding slurry transfer where the media is abrasive, corrosive or contains high solids.

They use a peristaltic principle where only the hose is in contact with the media. This reduces wear on other components and supports reliable operation in heavy duty applications.

Typical uses include slurry transfer, thickener underflow, process analyzer sample transfer, sump pumping, storage tanks, and recirculation in mining and mineral processing.

Key benefits:

  • Low operating costs
Efficient operation and long hose life help reduce overall costs
  • Continuous operation
Designed for reliable performance in demanding conditions
  • Handles high solids
Suitable for abrasive slurries and challenging media
  • Simple maintenance
The hose is the main wear part and can be replaced on site
  • Stable flow
No backflow which supports consistent operation
Hose pumps for dosing

Accurate dosing for demanding process conditions

These hose pumps are designed for accurate and repeatable dosing, even when handling abrasive or difficult media.

The peristaltic operating principle provides consistent flow, supporting reliable dosing regardless of process conditions.

They are typically used for flocculant dosing in flotation, chemical dosing, sampling and low flow slurry applications.

Key benefits:

  • Accurate dosing
    Consistent flow supports precise dosing
  • Handles difficult media
Suitable for abrasive, viscous or corrosive fluids
  • Reliable operation
    Stable performance across varying conditions
  • Low maintenance
Simple design with predictable wear parts
  • Built for industrial use
Suitable for continuous and demanding applications

Progressive cavity pumps
Progressive cavity pumps

Stable flow for viscous and shear sensitive media

Progressive cavity pumps are used when the media is viscous, paste-like or requires controlled and stable flow.

They move fluid in a smooth and continuous way, making them suitable for various uses such as sludge transfer, flocculant and chemical dosing, paper coating and paste pumping, waste pumping and other process applications where consistency matters.

Key benefits:

  • Smooth flow
    Low pulsation supports stable operation
  • Handles viscous media
Suitable for sludge, paste and thick fluids
  • Controlled performance
    Supports dosing and metering applications
  • Reliable operation
    Consistent performance over time
  • Reduced wear
Designed for steady operation at lower speeds

Pulsation dampening

More stable pumping systems

Pulsation dampening reduces pressure fluctuations and vibration in hose pumps.

It helps stabilize operation, protects equipment and supports more consistent performance.

Key benefits:

  • Reduces pulsation
Smooths pressure variations in the system
  • Protects equipment
Reduces stress on pipelines and pump components
  • Supports stable operation
    Improves overall system performance
  • Supports efficiency
    Helps optimize pumping performance
  • Easy to install
Can be used across different pump types
